So, TODAY reported that the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) have put down free-roaming chickens in Thomson and Sin Min Avenue. AVA said that the chickens were humanely enthanised, as “relocation options are not available in land scarce Singapore.”
AVA said that they had received 20 complaints from residents about the wild chickens last year, which led them to put the chickens down.
Hmm, I wonder why the authorities didn’t try to relocate the chickens to the Seletar or Pierce central catchment areas. Pains my heart too, since I live around the area, and the chickens are a welcomed sight. Makes the place more kampung like.
And actually, the chickens used to live on an unoccupied state land, which has now been turned into yet another condo project. The chickens thus relocated across the street (closer to HDB blocks). Residents can verify:
Not surprisingly, 7 of the 10 residents that TODAY spoke to disagreed with AVA’s move to cull the chickens.
And it seems like netizens are generally against the move as well.
Sigh. What a bad start of the Year of the Rooster.
And to the employers of workers who live in the area, please don’t blame your employees for being late at work. Cause:
That is all.
