MINDEF released a statement on the Terrex situation on the one month anniversary since the seizure of the  vehicles.

And actually, the statement says nothing at all.

What do you mean by “formal position”? What exactly is Singapore’s formal position -giving Hong Kong the vehicles as a Christmas present?  What have Singapore authorities done to resolve this  matter?

What’s the objective of this statement? To play to the gallery and show Singaporeans that you’re doing something?

But you haven’t given us the details.

To pressure Beijing Hong Kong into returning our Terrex vehicles? Then shouldn’t the statement be firmer?

And wouldn’t it be better to play this low key, and resolve it using other diplomatic channels?

Most Singaporeans don’t blame the government for not being able to secure the vehicles la. After all, when a big country  wants to be a bully, there’s little we can do.

But I think MINDEF and Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen have to understand that sometimes, it is better to say nothing at all.

“You say it best, when you say nothing at all.”

That is all.

The end.
