Earlier today, the US entertainment industry celebrated the second major awards show of the Awards Season with the poorer cousin of the Oscars – The Golden Globes. Naturally, celebrity A-listers from all over Hollywood gathered in their best dresses and suits (we’re looking at you, Jennifer Lawrence).
The awards show was hosted by Ricky Gervais of The Office fame. Gervais took the opportunity to make fun of every celeb that he lay his eyes on and even the awards ceremony he was hosting.
“If you do win tonight, remember that no one cares about that award as much as you do. Don’t get emotional. It’s embarrassing” – Ricky Gervais on the Golden Globes
But getting to the real awards, here’s who won some of the big prizes.
Best motion picture, drama: The Revenant
Best motion picture, musical or comedy: The Martian (Yes.. It’s a musical/comedy, according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association)
Best motion picture, animated: Inside Out
Best television series, drama: Mr. Robot
The other winners included Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs), Matt Damon (The Martian) and Lady Gaga (American Horror Story: Hotel).
But special mention must be given to Sylvester Stallone, who won Best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a motion picture, for “Creed“. In case you did not watch that movie (like me), it is a spin-off to the original “Rocky” series and a sequel to 2006’s “Rocky Balboa“.
Interestingly, Stallone this is the second time that Stallone was nominated for an award at the Golden Globes, with the first one for Best Actor in “Rocky” in 1977.
